After last night’s protest in Belgrade, three activists from the organization “Ne damo Jadar” were sentenced to 40 and 30 days in prison for disturbing public order and peace. In response, the organization’s representative, Zlatko Kokanović, called for citizens to gather in front of the Government of Serbia tonight at 6 p.m.
Kokanović stated, “Folks, at 18:00 at the crossroads near the Government of Serbia, we must gather in as many numbers as possible. This is North Korea.” He believes the verdict against the activists was politically motivated and not a fair judgment.
Actress Jelena Stupljanin urged citizens to join the protest, emphasizing the importance of standing up for the rights of the activists. Ljiljana Bralović, an activist from the Alliance of Environmental Organizations of Serbia (SEOS), emphasized the importance of supporting the activists, as they could have been anyone’s children.
A new protest is planned for 6 p.m., and the community is encouraged to come together and show their support.
