Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler emphasized the strong bond between Turkey and Japan, calling for increased collaboration between the two countries for a more peaceful world. Speaking aboard a Japanese training ship in Istanbul, Guler highlighted the potential for strategic partners Turkey and Japan to contribute to regional and international stability through cooperation in security and defense.

Marking the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Guler praised the historical ties and mutual respect shared by Turkey and Japan. He stressed the importance of dialogue and cooperation in shaping a better future, applauding the growing defense partnership between Ankara and Tokyo.

In attendance at the event were Deputy Defense Minister Alpaslan Kavaklioglu, Japanese Ambassador to Turkey Katsumata Takahiko, and other dignitaries. Ambassador Katsumata noted the long history of naval visits between Turkey and Japan, expressing confidence that the current exchanges would further strengthen the friendship between the two nations.

The Japanese ships, Kashima and Shimakaze, arrived in Istanbul as part of the centennial celebrations of Turkey-Japan diplomatic relations and will be open to the public for visits over the weekend.
