Turkey Continues to Neutralize PKK/YPG Terrorists in Northern Iraq and Syria
Turkish security forces have successfully “neutralized” 64 PKK/YPG terrorists in northern Iraq and Syria within the past week, bringing the total number of terrorists neutralized since January 1 to 1,652. Rear Admiral Zeki Akturk, the spokesman for the country’s National Defense Ministry, provided this update during a recent press conference in Ankara.
Of the 1,652 terrorists, 796 were neutralized in northern Iraq, while the remaining 856 were in northern Syria. Additionally, 395 individuals, including three members of terrorist organizations, were apprehended attempting to illegally cross the border, with 973 others prevented from doing so.
Turkish authorities use the term “neutralize” to indicate that the terrorists surrendered, were captured, or killed. The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US, and the EU, has been responsible for over 40,000 deaths in its nearly 40-year terror campaign against Turkey.
Operations in the Claw region are ongoing, with an emphasis on clearing out terrorists hiding in caves. Turkey expects increased cooperation with Iraq to further combat terrorism in the region.
