Recently, the apartment building of Cas Holloway, Columbia University’s chief operating officer, was vandalized with red paint and Hamas symbols. Governor Kathy Hochul condemned the act, promising a thorough investigation by the NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force.
The Jewish Community Relations Council of New York likened the vandalism to tactics used by Nazis in the 1930s. This incident is not isolated, as anti-Semitic attacks have been on the rise, with pro-Palestinian protesters targeting Jewish individuals and institutions.
One of the vandals, a videographer named Samuel Seligson, has been arrested and charged with hate crimes. Additionally, Palestine Action US has been sharing online videos of activists defacing businesses in the city, adding to the growing concern over escalating anti-Semitic behavior.
The situation is further complicated by a student coalition at Columbia University advocating for the “total eradication of Western civilization,” sparking fears and tensions in the community.
