Former political heavyweight Ichiro Ozawa of the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan is openly expressing his desire to replace current CDP leader Kenta Izumi in the upcoming presidential election on Sept. 23.
Ozawa emphasized the significance of the next general election as a crucial opportunity for the party to seize control of the government. Following a meeting with fellow CDP member and former Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda in Tokyo on July 31, Ozawa reiterated his belief that selecting the most suitable candidate to lead the party is essential to achieving this goal.
With a clear focus on the future and the importance of securing power in the next government, Ozawa is pushing for a candidate beyond Izumi to lead the party in the upcoming leadership election.
