The Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikilias, issued a warning about the heightened risk of forest fires due to extreme weather conditions leading up to the August 15 holiday.

He emphasized the combination of very high temperatures, strong winds, lack of rain, and drought, creating a ‘red’ alert situation for half of Greece. Emergency measures involving the army, police, volunteers, Fire Service, and local government have been implemented to combat the potential disaster.

Kikilias urged the public to remain vigilant and responsible during this challenging week, emphasizing the need for proactive measures to prevent and address any potential forest fires.
