Revenue officers, with the help of gardaí, have intercepted a massive haul of cannabis worth over €16 million at Rosslare Europort. The seizure included 783kg of herbal cannabis and 70kg of cannabis resin found in an unaccompanied freight unit arriving from Bilbao, Spain.
The successful operation, carried out through risk profiling aided by detector dog Jasper and an x-ray scanner, marks a significant blow to organised crime groups involved in drug trafficking. The seized drugs will now undergo analysis by Forensic Science Ireland.
Although no arrests have been made yet, investigations are ongoing to track down the culprits behind the illicit importation. This seizure underscores Revenue’s ongoing efforts to combat the importation of illegal drugs and disrupt criminal activities.
