Drone attack targets Rohingya refugees near Bangladesh border

Tragedy struck at the border of Myanmar as drone attacks killed innocent civilians, including a pregnant woman and her young daughter. The devastating assault, the worst on civilians in Rakhine state amidst ongoing conflict, drew condemnation from witnesses, activists, and a diplomat.

While the Arakan Army denied involvement in the attack, survivors and authorities pointed fingers at the military group. The Rohingya minority, considered illegal immigrants by Myanmar’s government, continues to face persecution, with the United Nations labeling them the most oppressed minority globally.

Since August 25, 2017, Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine province have suffered from violent repression by the Myanmar army, forcing over a million to flee to Bangladesh. The tragedy underscores the ongoing plight of the Rohingya community, caught in the crossfire of conflict and persecution.
