Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko made a startling announcement on Saturday, revealing that a dozen Ukrainian drones had been shot down over his country during the night. Lukashenko disclosed this information at a news conference in Minsk, stating that the drones were detected and destroyed by air defense systems in southern Belarus.
He suggested that these were attack drones that had violated Belarusian airspace by flying in from Ukraine. Lukashenko emphasized that the Belarusian air defense forces were quickly mobilized and put on high alert in response to the situation, as he accused Ukraine of repeatedly breaching their airspace.
The president detailed that multiple aircraft and rocket systems were activated to intercept the drones, some of which were initially headed towards a Russian city. Fortunately, the Belarusian military alerted their Russian counterparts, leading to the successful interception and destruction of all the drones.
