SIHA Network Reports: Woman Dies After Gang Rape in Sudan
The Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA) Network recently revealed a heartbreaking incident where a 26-year-old woman lost her life after being gang-raped in her family home in Sudan. The attack occurred in Wad Madani, Al Gazira State, during an invasion by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
According to SIHA, this tragic event highlights the widespread issue of sexual violence in the country, with 265 documented cases since the conflict began. Despite efforts to support victims, there are challenges in providing services to male survivors of assault.
SIHA’s Regional Director, Hala Al-Karib, emphasized the need to relocate victims, provide immediate medical care, and ensure communication in areas affected by conflict. She also addressed the cultural barriers that prevent some victims from seeking help.
The ongoing war in Sudan, with its devastating impact on the population, has led to a humanitarian crisis. The conflict between different factions has resulted in thousands of casualties and millions displaced, painting a grim picture of the situation in the region.
