Village head confirms more bodies found in Niger mine pit

In an unfortunate incident that occurred in the Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, a collapsed mining pit trapped 14 miners on June 14. As the search and rescue operations continued, ten bodies were recovered earlier while the remaining four bodies were finally retrieved on Wednesday. The Village Head of Galadima-Kogo, Alhaji Umaru Aliyu, shared this update with the News Agency of Nigeria.

The recovered bodies have been taken to the mortuary for further arrangements. The community, along with staff from African Minerals and Logistics Ltd., worked together to recover the bodies. The families of the victims are now seeking compensation and may resort to legal action due to the lack of support from both the company and the state government.

The incident has left deep wounds in the community, with families anxiously waiting for closure as they demand justice for their loved ones. As the heartbreaking saga unfolds, it serves as a reminder of the dangers and uncertainties faced by miners in such hazardous environments. Let us stand in solidarity with the affected families and hope for a fair resolution to this tragic event.
