The United States Ambassador to Pakistan, Donald Blome, commended Pakistan’s decision to extend the stay of registered Afghan refugees by a year. Pakistan had initially announced the repatriation of illegal foreigners for security reasons, sparking concerns among Afghan refugees. Despite launching deportations last year, the government’s recent decision to extend the stay of 1.45 million Afghan refugees until June 30, 2025, showcases a humane approach towards addressing the crisis.
Ambassador Blome expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s continued support to Afghan refugees and affirmed the US’s commitment to assisting both refugees and host communities. The extension of Proof of Registration (PoR) cards for refugees was also acknowledged as a crucial step in protection.
