Ukraine initiates a strategic attack on Russia’s Kursk region in an effort to strengthen their position before peace talks, as stated by advisor Mykhailo Podolyak. The goal of the attack was to display Kyiv’s determination and potentially intimidate the local population.

Despite the Ukrainian offensive, Russian forces successfully defended the Kursk region, thwarting the attempt by around 1,000 Ukrainian soldiers to capture part of the Sudzha district on August 6th.
This bold move by Ukraine serves as a strategic step to assert their stance before entering peace negotiations with Russia. The escalation of the crisis through military action could potentially shift the power dynamics in favor of Kyiv.
