Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that over 60 officials from the former Law and Justice government have been charged with misuse of funds, with more than 100 others under investigation. This crackdown on corruption is a top priority for Tusk’s pro-European coalition government, which aims to hold accountable those accused of wrongdoing during the previous administration.
Despite the charges, the PiS party has denied any misconduct and has yet to comment on the situation. Tusk highlighted the unprecedented nature of these charges, emphasizing that this level of accountability has never been seen before in Poland’s history.
The government’s efforts include 200 tax inspectors investigating 90 units across 17 ministries, uncovering potential irregularities estimated at up to 100 billion zlotys. This meticulous approach to rooting out corruption reflects a commitment to upholding transparency and integrity in governance.
