Venezuela’s opposition warned of a potential mass exodus of migrants if President Nicolas Maduro remains in power after his contested reelection. The US called on Maduro not to arrest protest leaders, while left-wing allies Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico requested detailed election results disclosure from the National Electoral Council.
Maduro’s government blocked social media platform X for 10 days, accusing owner Elon Musk of an “attack” on his reelection. The opposition claimed victory, sparking protests and leaving at least 24 dead. More than seven million Venezuelans have fled since Maduro came to power, amidst an economic crisis and international sanctions.
