Amid increasing electricity bills, Nepra has announced a tariff hike of Rs2.56 per unit, resulting in an additional collection of over Rs33 billion from consumers in August. This increase, part of the monthly fuel cost adjustment for June, will be reflected in the upcoming electricity bills. However, it will not impact lifeline consumers and K-Electric users.

This rise follows a previous increase in May, indicating a pattern of escalating costs for consumers. Nepra’s approval of a slightly lower fee of Rs2.56 per unit from the requested Rs2.63 indicates ongoing discussions on electricity tariffs.

The inquiry report highlighted inflated bills for users during the April-June period, raising concerns about fair billing practices. The government has established a task force to address issues in the power sector, including capacity payments to independent power producers.

The task force’s investigation and recommendations are crucial to resolving energy cost challenges faced by both industries and consumers. Stay tuned for updates on the sector’s developments!
