Maduro imposes 10-day ban on X due to Elon Musk dispute

Venezuelan President Maduro Blocks Social Media Amid Spat with Elon Musk

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has signed a decree to block access to the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, for 10 days after clashing with owner Elon Musk. The feud between the two escalated after Maduro’s controversial victory in last month’s disputed presidential election, with Musk calling him a “dictator” and a “clown”, while Maduro accused Musk of inciting hatred and civil war.

The election, deemed undemocratic by independent observers, saw anti-government protests and hundreds of arrests. Maduro claimed the election was marred by a cyber coup and accused Musk of interfering in the process.

In response, Maduro announced the suspension of X, claiming Musk violated Venezuelan laws by supporting the opposition. Despite being declared the winner, calls for releasing official vote tallies have been made, with some countries recognizing the opposition candidate as the rightful winner.

The situation remains tense, with the Carter Center stating the election lacked integrity, while both candidates are expected to submit their vote tallies to the Supreme Court. The outcome is uncertain, as the power struggle continues in Venezuela.
