Japanese PM Cancels Overseas Trip Due to Megaquake Advisory
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida canceled his overseas trip to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Mongolia after the country’s weather agency issued a rare alert for a potential Nankai Trough megaquake. The advisory, prompted by abnormal observations along the Nankai Trough, highlights the increased risk of a major earthquake. The government estimates a 70-80% chance of a magnitude 8-9 quake in the region within the next 30 years. Following a recent magnitude-7.1 quake in Miyazaki, the country remains on high alert, focusing on earthquake readiness and response.
