Recent Terrorist Attacks at Concerts and Festivals: A Recap
August 2024 saw the cancellation of Taylor Swift’s concerts in Vienna due to a planned Islamist terror attack, highlighting the ever-present threat of terrorism at large events. In March 2024, IS attacked Moscow’s Crocus City Hall, resulting in over 140 deaths. Concertgoers were targeted in May 2017 when a bomb exploded at Manchester Arena, killing 22 people following an Ariana Grande concert.
Germany’s Rock am Ring festival faced a scare in June 2017, with 86,000 attendees evacuated due to a threat. Istanbul’s Reina nightclub was attacked on New Year’s Eve 2017, killing 39 people. Ansbach’s music festival in July 2016 faced a suicide bomber, while the 2015 attacks in Paris at the Bataclan venue by IS were among the worst in European history.
