Hong Kong’s CLP Power ordered to submit report after outage impacting 1,400 households

Authorities in Hong Kong have instructed the largest electricity provider, CLP Power, to identify and rectify issues in its power supply system following a recent outage affecting over 1,400 households in Tseung Kwan O. The Environment and Ecology Bureau mandated CLP Power to submit a detailed report within a month after a fire damaged the electricity meter room at Po Kan House, causing the disruption. The bureau emphasized the need for CLP Power to address these problems to ensure a stable and reliable power supply for Hong Kong residents.

In response to multiple supply disruptions in the first few months of this year, the government has formed a task force to review CLP’s power supply system and make suggestions for improvement. The task force is set to convene its inaugural meeting later this month. Secretary for Environment and Ecology, Tse Chin-wan, has also called for significant changes to CLP’s culture and electricity supply management system following previous incidents.
