Bishop Carlassare takes charge of Bentiu Diocese in South Sudan.

Bishop Christian Carlassare has officially begun his role as the head of the newly established Catholic Diocese of Bentiu in Unity State. His arrival at the Rubkonta airstrip marked the beginning of his leadership, two months after being appointed in June. The creation of the diocese was announced by Pope Francis on July 3, leading to this historic moment.

During his welcome speech at the St Martin de Forest Church, Bishop Carlassare expressed gratitude for the warm reception from the Bentiu congregation. He emphasized the diocese’s mission to promote peace and unity in Unity State and the Ruweng Administrative Area through the teachings of Jesus.

Inviting everyone to the upcoming Sunday Mass, the Bishop promised a significant congregation for the event. Bishop Stephen Nyodho Ador of the Catholic Diocese of Malakal joined other Christians in handing over the new office to Bishop Carlassare, demonstrating solidarity and support.

Unity State Deputy Governor James Tor Tungwar extended a warm welcome on behalf of the regional government, assuring the Bishop of their commitment to peace and unity under the leadership of Governor Riek Biem.
