New Ukrainian Corvette Launched in Turkey – Named Hetman Ivan Vyhovsky

The Ukrainian Navy recently secured a contract with Turkish shipbuilders to construct two ADA-class corvettes. The first vessel, Hetman Ivan Mazepa, is already undergoing navigational tests after its launch in October 2022. Meanwhile, construction on the second corvette, Hetman Ivan Vyhovsky, began in 2023 and was launched in August 2024.

The ADA-class corvette is equipped with advanced weaponry, including the OTO Melara Super Rapid 76mm gun and the French VL-MICA surface-to-air missile system. The corvette also features a helipad for the S70-B Seahawk helicopter, along with other cutting-edge technology for navigation and protection.

The Ukrainian corvettes will potentially be armed with the US-made Harpoon anti-ship missile system and other Ukrainian weapons systems. With a focus on coordination with radar systems, artillery, aviation, and unmanned vehicles, these corvettes are poised to enhance the Ukrainian Navy’s capabilities in “net warfare.”

Overall, the construction of these ADA-class corvettes signifies a significant advancement in Ukraine’s maritime defense capabilities, bolstering its ability to conduct modern military operations at sea.
