Assam DGP ensures safety for Indian passport holders returning from Bangladesh
Assam DGP Gyanendra Pratap Singh affirmed that only Indian passport holders will be permitted to return from Bangladesh through designated entry points in the state to prevent illegal entry. He emphasized the collaboration between Assam Police and Border Security Force to safeguard the international borders.
During a recent law and order review meeting, Singh mentioned the return of 78 students, including those from Assam and other parts of India, during the previous disturbances in Bangladesh. This time, a clear directive has been issued to allow Indian passport holders to return while restricting others from entering illegally.
With integrated check posts at strategic locations like Sutarkandi in Karimganj, the authorities are closely monitoring the situation along the border. The DGP highlighted coordination efforts with security forces to maintain vigilance and prevent unlawful activities.
Despite recent developments in Bangladesh, Singh urged peace and discouraged violent actions from disruptive groups. The security review meeting also focused on neutralizing threats from ULFA(I) and maintaining a peaceful environment in Assam.
The joint efforts of Assam Police, CAPF, Army, and intelligence agencies reflect a commitment to preserving peace and security in the region.
