After jailing nearly 100 activists in the past two months, Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa held a national breakfast prayer meeting on Wednesday seeking divine guidance.

The prayer meeting brought together ruling party members, government officials, and clergy at the State House.

In preparation for the SADC summit, some opposition and civil society groups planned demonstrations related to Zimbabwe’s previous elections.

Mnangagwa urged for a peaceful and hospitable summit, emphasizing unity and patriotism.

This will be the fourth time Zimbabwe hosts the SADC summit, with previous hosting in 1981, 1989, and 2014.
