Chief of Staff Gerasimov revealed that up to 1,000 Ukrainian soldiers were part of the group attempting to breach the Kursk region of Russia. However, Russian forces have successfully halted their advance. Gerasimov emphasized the operation will end with the defeat of the enemy and the Russian troops reaching the state border.
The Russian Defense Ministry disclosed details of night battles with the Ukrainian forces in border areas, resulting in significant losses for Ukraine. The attack on the Kursk region initiated by Ukrainian forces on August 6 led to civilian casualties and widespread displacement of residents.
President Putin labeled the attack a “large-scale provocation,” condemning the indiscriminate targeting of civilian buildings and ambulances by Ukrainian forces. He pledged to address the crisis and ensure the safety of affected residents.
Despite the intense situation, efforts are underway to evacuate civilians and provide necessary assistance. The region remains on high alert as Russian forces continue to defend their territory with artillery and missile systems.
