Russian President Vladimir Putin has accused Kyiv of launching a “large-scale provocation” and engaging in “indiscriminate shooting” in the Kursk region, where Russian forces claim to be fighting Ukrainian troops. Putin stated that Ukrainian forces were targeting civilian buildings, residential areas, and ambulances with various weapons, including missiles.
In response to the escalating situation, Putin announced plans to convene a meeting with top military and law enforcement officials to address the crisis in Kursk. He also instructed civilian agencies to provide assistance to affected residents in the region.
According to Russian claims, up to 300 Ukrainian troops, along with tanks and armored vehicles, launched an attack on Russian military positions near the border with Ukraine’s Sumy region. The Defense Ministry reported ongoing clashes but asserted that Ukrainian forces were unable to progress deep into Russian territory.
As the violence continues, casualties have been reported on both sides, with five deaths in Kursk and 24 injuries, including six children, from Ukrainian shelling. Ukrainian authorities have not yet responded to Russia’s allegations, and verifying the situation independently remains challenging due to the conflict.
