Postponement of Iraq refugee camp closures

Postponement of Iraq refugee camp closures

The Iraqi government has decided to postpone the closure of refugee camps in the Kurdistan region of Iraq after July 30. The Ministry of Migration and Displacement will continue to support the camps for the time being. This decision comes as part of efforts to encourage displaced individuals to voluntarily return to their original areas of residence.

The Ministry is offering a grant of four million Iraqi dinars, as well as household items, relief aid, and job opportunities for family supporters to those who choose to return home. The closure of camps, such as the Kalar camp in Sulaymaniyah governorate, is part of a plan to shut down all refugee camps in the country by July 30.

With about 29 camps and over 40,000 displaced families, the Iraqi government is working towards sustainable solutions for the displaced population. The Ministry’s support will continue to ensure the well-being and stability of those affected by displacement.
