Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Launches Nationwide Tree Plantation Drive
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif kickstarted the nationwide monsoon tree plantation campaign by planting a sapling in Islamabad. He emphasized the importance of planting at least 100 million trees throughout Pakistan, including regions like Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, to combat the adverse effects of climate change experienced in 2022.
PM Shehbaz highlighted the significant role tree planting plays in reducing air pollution and urged federal and provincial governments to actively participate in promoting the initiative. He called upon all citizens to join hands with the government in creating a green and pollution-free environment, safeguarding the nation against climate-related calamities.
During the event, the prime minister was briefed on the specific area-wise planting targets set across the country, further emphasizing the government’s commitment to sustainable environmental practices.
