The General Medical Council (GMC) has revealed concerning findings about the state of NHS doctors in the UK. Almost a fifth of doctors have reduced their hours, and two in five are refusing extra work to avoid burnout. The GMC warned that overworked doctors could compromise patient safety, highlighting the critical state of UK health services. The annual report also showed a rising trend of doctors cutting back on hours and declining additional duties due to stress.
The report, based on a survey of 4,288 doctors, indicates a worrying situation within the medical profession. Many doctors are experiencing exhaustion and are taking measures to protect their well-being by reducing their workload. GPs, in particular, are greatly impacted, with a high percentage reducing their hours and struggling to cope with the demands of patient care.
