Russia’s Defense Ministry stated on Tuesday that reserve troops and aviation units were mobilized to the Kursk region in response to a surprise incursion by Ukrainian forces, resulting in the deaths of 3 civilians and multiple injuries.
Ukrainian forces launched an attack with soldiers, tanks, and armored vehicles, focusing on border villages. The Russian military, along with border force units, retaliated, inflicting damage on the enemy.
In the ongoing conflict, acting Governor Alexei Smirnov confirmed the casualties and reported successful defense against incursions in other districts. The Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council disputed Russia’s claims, stating that Russia does not have control over the border.
Incursions into Russian border regions by armed combatants have been a recurring issue, often involving paramilitary groups opposing the Kremlin. The situation remains tense with both sides engaged in ongoing conflicts.
