Israeli Military Uses Amazon, Google, and Microsoft Services for Gaza Operations
The Israeli army has been utilizing Amazon’s cloud service and AI tools from Microsoft and Google for military purposes, handling data related to Palestinians and Gaza. The use of these technologies was disclosed by Col. Racheli Dembinsky, confirming the military’s reliance on these civilian tech giants.
Dembinsky described the internal cloud as a “weapons platform,” critical for various military functions in Gaza. AWS specifically provided a server farm for Israeli intelligence operations, aiding in warfare. The vast amount of data stored on Amazon’s cloud has even been used to confirm aerial strikes in Gaza.
Project Nimbus
In 2021, Google and Amazon signed a significant contract with Israel, prompting ministries to shift information systems to public cloud servers. However, protests from employees led to Google dismissing 50 individuals. The increased procurement of services from Google Cloud, AWS, and Azure by the Israeli army has raised concerns globally.
The situation in Gaza remains dire, with thousands dead or missing due to the conflict, underscoring the urgency for a peaceful resolution.
