Imagined January Insurrection: ‘War Game’ Film

A new film titled “War Game” is set to release in theaters this Friday, depicting a simulated scenario of a contested 2024 presidential election and an insurrection, mirroring the events of January 6, 2021.

Last year, a group of former elected officials, including governors, senators, and military generals, gathered at a hotel in Washington D.C. to simulate a potential civil war in January 2025. This meeting inspired the creation of “War Game.”

The film features former Montana Gov. Steve Bullock portraying President John Hotham, navigating through the challenges of an impending coup and escalating insurgency. The storyline underscores the critical importance of countering disinformation and upholding bipartisan defense of democracy.

Directors Tony Gerber and Jesse Moss captured the intense six-hour simulation that unfolded in the Washington D.C. hotel room, offering a glimpse into a possible future to prevent a descent into civil war.

The inspiration for the simulation came from the Vet Voice Foundation, sparked by the presence of former U.S. service members in the violent Jan. 6 riots. Retired General Linda Singh, who plays the National Guard Chief in the film, emphasized the necessity to prepare for extreme situations in light of recent events.
