Former Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari praised the decision to outlaw three parties in Iraq for their connections with the PKK terrorist group. He commended the Iraqi judicial authorities for prohibiting these parties from participating in the upcoming elections, stating that it was a necessary and wise move.
Zebari, a key figure within Iraq’s Kurdish Democratic Party, referred to these parties as a “cancerous tumor” causing chaos and instability in the region and across Iraq. The parties banned include the “Ezidi Freedom and Democracy” party, the “Democratic Struggle Front,” and the “Kurdistan Community Freedom” party. Their properties were also confiscated following the order from Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council.
The decision to ban these parties came after confirmation from Iraq’s intelligence and the prime minister’s office of their ties to the PKK terrorist group. The Iraqi government has also labeled the PKK as a “banned organization” in official communication, recognizing its decades-long campaign of terror which has resulted in the deaths of over 40,000 people.
This action marks a significant step towards combating terrorism in Iraq and promoting peace and stability in the region.
