Right-wing Reform U.K. leader Nigel Farage has confessed to spreading misinformation following a recent knife attack in Southport. The incident has led to widespread violence and riots across England and Northern Ireland. Farage, known for his controversial political views, posted a video speculating on the background of the killer shortly after the attack. He falsely claimed that the attacker was known to the security services, leading to misinformation spreading online and at a vigil for the victims of the attack. This misinformation triggered days of unrest and riots across the country.
During an appearance on LBC, Farage defended his actions, stating that he was seeking the truth. However, LBC presenter Tom Swarbrick challenged Farage on the sources of his information, pointing out that they were from fake news websites amplified by Russian state TV.
The U.K. is currently experiencing its worst wave of riots in 13 years, with far-right demonstrators targeting asylum seekers and ethnic minority communities. Over 400 individuals have been arrested, and 100 have been charged in connection with the unrest.
