Delhi High Court Dismisses Petition Alleging Out-of-Syllabus Question in NEET-UG Exam
The Delhi High Court recently rejected a petition by a NEET candidate who claimed that an ‘out-of-syllabus’ question was included in the entrance exam. The court emphasized that it cannot question the expertise of subject matter professionals and substitute its judgment in their place.
The petitioner had raised concerns about a physics question relating to ‘radioactivity,’ which was not a part of the prescribed syllabus for NEET-UG. However, after consulting with exam-conducting authority NTA’s subject experts, the court confirmed that the question was within the syllabus parameters.
Furthermore, the court dismissed similar petitions by other candidates regarding answer discrepancies, stating that it cannot intervene in cases where errors are not apparent. NEET-UG 2024, which saw 24 lakh candidates across 4,750 centers, had its results declared ahead of schedule on June 4.
In a related development, the Supreme Court earlier declined to cancel the NEET-UG 2024 exam, citing a lack of evidence to substantiate claims of question paper leaks that could compromise the exam’s integrity. NEET-UG is a vital entrance exam for medical and related courses in India.
