Bangladesh: Yunus urges calm as interim leader

Dhaka, Bangladesh – Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has issued a plea for calm to the people of Bangladesh as he prepares to take on the role of the country’s temporary leader. With the nation in turmoil following the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and weeks of protests, Yunus urged against violence, emphasizing the importance of rebuilding the country together.

Yunus, known for his microfinance work, is set to be sworn in as interim leader on Thursday, following a court decision overturning a prior conviction against him. He returns to a country recovering from unrest, with calls for free elections and a return to democracy coming from political figures like Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman.

As Bangladesh’s economy slowly recovers from the recent turmoil, Yunus’s leadership and the call for unity hold the promise of a brighter future for the nation.
