Australian Olympic Field Hockey Player Attempted to Purchase Cocaine

A member of the Australian Olympic field hockey team received a criminal warning in Paris for attempting to purchase cocaine, according to prosecutors on Wednesday. The incident occurred during a drug transaction in Paris, resulting in the athlete being taken into custody along with a 17-year-old alleged seller. The athlete was given a criminal warning, which serves as an alternative to prosecution for first-time offenders under French law.

The Australian Olympic Committee confirmed that no charges had been filed and stated that they are providing support to the team member involved. The athlete’s name has not been disclosed by either Australian officials or Paris prosecutors, and the International Hockey Federation declined to comment.

Both the men’s and women’s Australian field hockey teams were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Olympics, with the men’s team winning silver in the Tokyo Games in 2021.
