Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus is set to lead an interim government in Bangladesh following the removal of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, announced by the country’s presidency on August 7.
President Mohammed Shahabuddin, military leaders, and student group heads decided on forming an interim government with Yunus at the helm during a meeting, aiming to navigate the ongoing crisis.
The swift formation of this government is seen as crucial to stabilize the situation, with President Shahabuddin also making changes in the law enforcement leadership to address recent protests.
Student group leader Nahid Islam confirmed the decision and emphasized the urgent need for an interim government, with plans underway for its prompt establishment.
