Venezuelan Prosecution Launches Probe Into Opposition’s Declaration

The opposition’s statement would constitute various crimes, Saab argued.

Venezuela’s Attorney General Tarek William Saab launched a probe into opposition leaders Edmundo González Urrutia and María Corina Machado’s declaration urging law enforcement and military officers to recognize them as winners of the July 28 presidential elections.

Asserting that this move aimed to disrupt the rule of law by proclaiming a victorious candidate other than Nicolás Maduro, as declared by the National Electoral Council, Saab highlighted the potential commission of multiple crimes.

The Public Ministry initiated a criminal investigation in response to the dissemination of the invalid communiqué, citing charges including Usurpation of Functions, Dissemination of False Information, Instigation to Disobedience, and Conspiracy.

Standing as a guardian of peace and stability, the Public Ministry remains vigilant against actions that incite violence and anxiety among the Venezuelan population.
