Recent events in Plymouth have seen a continuation of disorder for a seventh day following the Southport stabbings, with over 370 arrests made. Devon and Cornwall Police reported six arrests in Plymouth, where officers sustained minor injuries and two members of the public were hospitalized amid sustained violence.
In Southport, a peaceful vigil was held to remember the stabbing victims, with children blowing bubbles and leaving flowers in their honor. Meanwhile, in Birmingham, a Sky News van was attacked by a knife-wielding man as tensions rose.
In response to the riots, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced the assembly of a “standing army” of specialist police officers to tackle the unrest. Despite calls for Parliament to be recalled, Starmer emphasized the importance of allowing police to fulfill their duties.
As arrests continue to rise, the National Police Chiefs’ Council warned of further unrest. Courts are on standby to deliver swift justice, but the timeline for trials remains uncertain in some cases, with defendants not due in court for weeks.
The country is experiencing a wave of court appearances in various cities, with judges condemning the violence and disorder seen across the nation.
