Breaking news! Turkiye has officially declared its intervention in South Africa’s genocide case against Israel over the war in Gaza at the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan confirmed this during a press conference in Cairo, stating that the submission to the ICJ in The Hague is expected to be made on Wednesday.
Turkiye had previously announced its intentions to intervene in the case after preparing the necessary legal documents. Minister Fidan strongly condemned the killing of civilians by Israel on October 7, labeling it as a crime against humanity and attempted genocide.
South Africa filed the case against Israel in December 2023, accusing them of state-led genocide in Gaza. With over 40,000 deaths reported by health professionals, the ICJ has ordered Israel to prevent any further violations of the Genocide Convention.
This case has garnered support from 13 countries, signaling a widespread concern over Israel’s actions in Gaza. The ICJ is expected to allow these countries to intervene and present their perspectives in the ongoing legal battle.
