A chilling crime made headlines as a Texas man, Jared James Dicus, was sentenced to 40 years in prison for murdering his newlywed wife by decapitating her and leaving her head in the shower. The sentencing came after Dicus pleaded guilty in court, with no possibility of parole until 2043.
The Waller County District Attorney’s Office consulted with the victim’s family before finalizing the plea deal and sentencing. Despite initial concerns about Dicus’s mental health, he was deemed competent to stand trial.
As part of the plea deal, Dicus waived his right to appeal the sentence and any potential defense, emphasizing that the community does not tolerate domestic violence. The victim, Anggy Diaz, a young immigrant from Nicaragua, was found brutally murdered in the couple’s home.
