Report: Israel seeks military backing from Greece, Greek Cyprus amid tensions

Israel considers seeking military support from Greece and the Greek Cypriot administration in case of an attack, as reported by the Greek daily Kathimerini. This announcement comes in the wake of Iran threatening “severe punishment” for Israel after the assassination of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.

Documentonews highlighted the significance of Israel’s request for support, drawing attention to the previous joint air exercise between Greek and Israeli forces near Crete. However, a senior government official from the Greek Cypriot administration stated that they have no plans to provide military assistance to any state.

Since the brutal assault on Gaza by Israel last year, approximately 40,000 Palestinians have lost their lives, fueling tensions in the region. The recent killing of Haniyeh in Iran has further escalated the situation, emphasizing the volatile nature of the conflict in the Middle East.
