Tragedy struck the National Assembly as the sudden death of an opposition lawmaker halted the passage of a controversial elections amendment bill. The Speaker revealed that another opposition member had been abducted, causing further chaos in the political arena. Opposition members raised concerns about the missing MNA, Haji Imtiaz Ahmed, urging the Speaker to take action.
Leader of the Opposition, Omer Ayub Khan, highlighted the seriousness of the situation, stating that “enforced disappearances” had become a national issue. He accused intelligence agencies of torturing the missing MNA and called for his immediate recovery. The Opposition also criticized the treatment of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, labeling him as a “political prisoner.”
Amidst the turmoil, the death of MNA Mumtaz Mustafa added to the somber atmosphere in the Assembly. The controversial Elections Act (Amendment) Bill, aimed at preventing PTI’s dominance, remained unresolved. The session was adjourned as members mourned the loss and awaited further developments in the missing MNA case.
