Teachers in southern Yemen have started an inclusive strike at the beginning of the new academic year 2024-2025, citing the need for improved living and work conditions. The strike, declared by the Southern Teachers Syndicate, will affect schools in Aden, Hadramout, Shabwa, Lahj, Abyan, and Mahra, all under coalition control.
The Syndicate stated that the decision to strike was made after the Aden government failed to address teachers’ longstanding grievances. Concerns have been raised about the impact of the strike on the educational process, especially given the ongoing economic crisis and deteriorating living conditions in the region.
This development highlights the challenges faced by teachers in southern Yemen and the urgent need for government intervention to improve their working conditions and ensure the continuity of education for students.
