Julius Malema, leader of the EFF, recently emphasized the need for Zimbabwean youth to unite and challenge their government. Speaking at Rhodes University, Malema called for solidarity and activism from young people in Zimbabwe to address issues like poverty. He criticized regional bodies for not taking a more active role in Zimbabwe’s political situation.
Malema stressed that only the youth of Zimbabwe have the power to bring about political change and encouraged them to stand up against tyranny. This call to action comes in response to recent protests by Zimbabweans living in South Africa against the increased cost of passports, which has reached R4,540. The protests were sparked by a petition launched by Takudzwa Muchenje, urging the Zimbabwean government to reconsider the high fees.
The reactions to the protests have been mixed, with some questioning their impact and others pushing for stronger action within Zimbabwe itself. Muchenje’s petition has gained over 6,000 signatures, highlighting the widespread concern over the issue.
