In the midst of conflict, Palestinian students in Gaza and the West Bank are facing immense challenges. More than 10,000 students have lost their lives, with over 16,000 sustaining injuries since October 7th. The Palestinian Ministry of Education reported that the situation is dire, with 9,936 students killed in Gaza and 107 in the West Bank.
Tragically, 504 teachers and administrators have also lost their lives, with many more injured or detained. The impact on schools is devastating, with hundreds of educational institutions damaged, destroyed, or vandalized. The Ministry highlighted the destruction of government schools and UNRWA-affiliated schools in Gaza, as well as universities in both Gaza and the West Bank.
The future of over 620,000 students in Gaza is uncertain, as they face physical and psychological trauma. The education system is under immense strain, as schools struggle to provide a safe learning environment amidst ongoing conflict.
As the international community watches, it is crucial to prioritize the protection and support of Palestinian students and educators during these turbulent times.
