The Hadramout Tribal Alliance is actively recruiting thousands of fighters from the province’s tribes, with backing from Saudi Arabia. The objective is to secure control over the valuable oil fields in the Hadramout Valley, especially amidst escalating tensions between the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
Leader of the alliance, Amr bin Habrish, is spearheading the recruitment efforts to enlist around 20,000 fighters from the local tribes, funded by Saudi Arabia. This mobilization aims to safeguard the oil fields and uphold regional stability.
Pressure is mounting on the coalition-supported Aden government to address the demands of the Hadramout Tribal Alliance for greater involvement and partnership. In a recent statement, the Alliance called for recognition of Hadramout’s rights and activation of its role in the political settlement process, similar to other parties like the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council.
This move signifies a significant shift in power dynamics within the region, as tribal alliances seek to assert their influence in key sectors like energy resources.
