The Challenge of Illegal Immigration in Oman
Muscat – The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has emphasized the significant challenge posed by illegal migrants attempting to enter the sultanate. In recent months, 58 individuals were apprehended for illegal entry, with the latest incident in Muscat resulting in the arrest of 27 Asians attempting to enter the country illegally.
The ROP is ramping up efforts to combat infiltration by monitoring borders, tracking smugglers, conducting security campaigns, and educating the public on the impact of illegal migrants on security, public health, and the economy.
Society plays a crucial role in combating illegal immigration by increasing awareness of the dangers posed by infiltration. Majlis A’Shura member Ali bin Mansour bin Harith al Amiri highlighted the security risks associated with illegal entry and urged community members to reject any involvement with criminal groups exploiting infiltrators.
Lawyers Dr Khalifa bin Saif al Hinai and Dr Abdullah bin Mubarak bin Saif al Abri emphasized the legal consequences of illegal immigration, including risks to national security, public safety, and economic stability. Employing illegal migrants undermines the country’s economic stability and violates national security.
Efforts by government agencies, along with societal collaboration, are crucial in protecting Oman against the impacts of illegal immigration. Stricter measures are needed to safeguard society from potential threats to social cohesion and economic activities.
Director Ali bin Salem al Sawai highlighted the legal consequences of employing non-Omani workers without permits, emphasizing the seriousness with which Omani authorities view unauthorized employment and harboring illegal migrants.
