Bangladesh Parliament Dissolved in 80 Characters

Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin Chuppu has taken the decision to dissolve the country’s parliament in order to form an interim government following the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. This significant move was announced through a press release from the office of the head of state.

President Shahabuddin held consultations with various key stakeholders, including the heads of the armed forces, political party leaders, civil society representatives, and leaders of the Students Against Discrimination movement, before making the decision to dissolve the parliament. The date for the new parliamentary elections has not been confirmed yet.

The dissolution comes amidst ongoing mass protests against the quota system for public positions in Bangladesh, which recently escalated into violent clashes leading to casualties. In response to the unrest, a curfew has been implemented in the capital, Dhaka, and certain other cities. Additionally, non-working days have been declared from Monday to Wednesday in Bangladesh.
